The Café is a place for everyone. The idea behind it was to have a place where someone serving at La Mesa could invite a friend they meet while serving to coffee and not have to worry about them being welcomed. It is open six days a week and has become very popular very quickly. We have something called “cafe pendiente” which has two purposes. The first is for our friends from La Mesa or anywhere else to be able to come in and have a cup of coffee even though they more than likely don’t have the money to buy one. The other purpose is to provide the people from the community with an avenue to give back. When they buy something they can round up their total or buy cups of coffee for people who come in that can’t afford it. It’s teaching our workers and guests how to treat everyone with the same level of respect regardless of what the world says they deserve. Everyone is valued. Everyone is welcome.
